4th & Reckless Photoshoot

After having worked with 4th and Reckless for 3 months during my internship, I was invited back to assist on a shoot they had for their upcoming SS19 collection.

My role on the day was to assist stylist and creative lead Olivia Anderson. Throughout the day it was my responsibility to assist both Olivia and the model with any tasks that needed completing. These tasks included ensuring all outfits and accessories were ready for the model after she had finished shooting a section, also being on hand to make last minute alterations to the garments should they not perfectly fit the model or have the potential to be more flattering in shots.

During the day I was also able to shadow photographer Dave Alexander as well as makeup and hair artist Yasmin Switzter, due to the small group of 5 team members on set. Being able to work so closely with the photographer enabled me to gain valuable knowledge on lighting, angles and shoot direction that I can now implement within my own creative work. The small set numbers also meant I was asked upon to give my opinion in terms of styling and creative direction, which was highly appreciated from Olivia. Highlighting my ability to be able to understand a shoot concept and provide suggestions that are in keeping with the aesthetic.

As well as this, through shadowing Yasmin I was able to understand the key role that a makeup artists play within a photo shoot, that expands further than just applying the makeup at the start of the shoot. It is imperative that the makeup and hair artist is always on hand to add any touch ups or intervene when they believe that an image could be further enhanced if the makeup or hair was altered. Again, I was able to gain valuable insight on how to style a look based on the brief given by a client, which in turn will enhance my knowledge of imagery when creating mood boards and building a mood around a shoot.

Another element of the day that was of particular interest to me was working with the model. Before now, I have only ever worked with and shot non- professional models. Meaning the shoot gave me valuable industry insight when I was able to assist model Aleisha Wright who has previously shot for brands such as Pretty Little Thing and Fila, enabling me how to understand how to conduct within this professional working environment. I believe I dealt well with the pressure of this professional environment and felt comfortable within the studio and with other team members on set.

I am grateful to 4th and Reckless for continuing to incorporate me in their growth as a brand, as I have been able to watch them develop and expand with their products and offering. This has given me valuable industry experience, that allows me to feel confident within my abilities to act efficiently on a professional set and also within a business environment.
